Hello,

I just ordered a new laptop (https://bto.eu/product/xbook-15cl871/) and would like to take out the M.2 NVME drive in it and replace it with my M.2 SATA Samsung 860 EVO that i use in my current laptop (https://tweakers.net/pricewatch/551913/medion-erazer-azerty-toetsenbord/specificaties/)
Previously i already cloned the hard drive, which was preinstalled to my ssd without any problems.

I already checked that the new laptop i buyed support both M.2 NVME and SATA which it does. I also downloaded all the drivers for the new laptop here
(http://btodownloads.nl/index.php?dir=Notebooks%20%28Drivers%29/15CL871%20-%2017CL871%20%28N850EJ1%20-%20N850EK1%20-%20N871EJ1%20-%20N871EK1%29/Windows%2010%20update/)

I already read that it is probably is not possible to just swap them without problems. But i would like to keep as much data as possible, which steps do i have to take for this. Also how and when i can install the drivers as i don't have any experience with this.

Kind regards
Siebe

"Now i want that boot ssd from my old laptop in my new laptop as boot drive. "

I recommend against doing this because the Windows installation that is on the boot SSD from the old laptop is expecting the hardware from the old laptop and when it sees the new hardware in the new laptop I'm thinking there's a good chance you could run into trouble.

I thought that this worked because it was an drive cloned to an empty drive on the same hardware and read somewhere that if you change the hardware the drive probably isn't going to boot normally.

But i will try it, and let you know if it worked

I think what you are referring to is if you take a drive from one PC and put it in another PC and trying to boot it. THEN you may have hardware issues.

If you cloned a drive from a PC....and removed that drive.....and replaced it with the cloned drive.....I think it should boot fine (provided everything is setup right in the BIOS....like boot order etc)

Yes, i am trying to take my SSD from my old laptop and install it in my new laptop

No, sorry if i was not clear enough, but i don't want to use te ssd that comes with the new laptop, i just wan't to swap my ssd that i bought and used in my old laptop(with al my files on) with the new ssd that comes with the new laptop, which i am not planning on using at the moment.

i cloned the hard drive from my old laptop to an ssd bougth seperately, then i used that ssd as boot drive for my old laptop and removed the preinstalled hard drive from my old laptop (which i am not using at the moment). Now i want that boot ssd from my old laptop in my new laptop as boot drive.

Solution

Sorry for my very late response but i swapped the ssd expecting problems, but surprisingly it booted normally, I noticed there where drivers which failed but after removing them and installing the right drivers everything is running as it should be. Windows is also saying that there aren't any problems detected and i can keep al my files and programs.
Thanks for the help.
