My current configuration is:
Core 2 E8400
ASUS P5Q-E
4GB RAM
GTX 550 Ti
Samsung HDD
Sonata 3 Antec 500W

I have recently come into another system with a i7 2600 that I want to swap into the above configuration.

I had a few of quick questions:

1. Is it possible to just to swap in the new motherboard (with the i7 and ddr 3 RAM) and swap out the old motherboard with the e8400 and ddr2 RAM?

2. Is the 500W Antec up to the task of i7/GTX550Ti combination?

3. Apart from possible missing drivers and suchlike, will I run into other problems (the HDD will change motherboards)?

4. Will the Win 7 licence run into any problems, as it will now detect a substantially different combination of hardware?

Thanks in advance for your replies and advice!

Thanks heaps, unfortunately it appears that the motherboard sizes (micro-ATX and standard ATX) and case sizes make it impossible to do a direct swap without getting a LGA775 micro-ATX board. Too much trouble for a small upgrade.

I would need the micro ATX for the E8400, as that is the one that will go into the small case. I figured it really isn't worth the hassle, if I upgrade the desktop I would probably do it properly and go to Ivy Bridge or Haswell.
