Swapping cpu generations

Respectable
I was thinking about upgrading my i5-7600k to a i5-9600k. I’m also replacing my mobo but I was wondering if I have to do anything or if I could just unplug everything and then put the new mobo and cpu in?
Thanks!

Your data yes no problem.
Steam can be reinstalled and you tell it where your library is.
Some games work this way also. Download the launcher and point it to the game files.
most programs will need to be reinstalled to create the correct registry settings for them.

You actually don't need to reinstall Steam. Just move (or copy) the Steam folder from your SSD to your HDD. Reinstall Windows on the SSD, then move the Steam folder back to the SSD. Run steam.exe. It will notice it's in a new location, and will automatically make all the registry changes as if you'd installed it. Kudos to the programmers at Valve.
