Swapping CPU's

My Dad has a computer with no graphics card with an i3 2120, he doesn't play games just browses the web and word processors and all that so what would happen if i swapped my CPU and motherboard with his. Will it mess up the windows?

Hi. There's a good chance that Windows won't load after the swap. If it's from Intel to AMD, it probably won't and you'll need to reinstall everything after you backup your data.

I doubt Windows would boot. You could however try running startup repair after the swap. What are your current system specs?

So mine is an AMD Athlon 64x2 4450e with windows vista. My Dad's is i3 2120 with 7

From AMD to Intel? No way. You could get Windows 7 and reinstall it on both systems though.

I went from AMD Athlon 64 X2 4000+ to i3-2100 and the repair didn't help; I had to reinstall everything.

what if i swapped hard drives as well?

Swapping the motherboard, RAM, CPU and hard drive between the two should work.

If you swapped the motherboard , RAM , CPU and hard drive , everything should be fine.
