I have a att gateway3801HGV router that att installed at time of service. I have high speed internet, speed is like 23 mbps through speednet. But wife n kids using other devices in the house make streaming video and sometimes PS3 not fun to use.

Instead of cascading my old modem with a new modem, can I just replace the 3801HGV with the NETGEAR Wireless Router - N900 Dual Band Gigabit (WNDR4500v1). I was thinking I could call att and have them deactivate the 3801 and activate the n900. ever heard of this?? Thanks

You can always configure the netgear as an access point connecting it through the ethernet port of the old router (its not hard and there are plenty of guides to do that) that way it will always work.
