Hello guys
i have old laptop with dead mobo and decide to get it back to life and was searching motherboard for it
mine is Elitebook 850 G1 4th series i5 and during search on ebay i came to 840 G2 mobo with 5tth series i5, main reason is price, for newer version price is lower
but there is 2 difference i noted on the mobos
one is wifi adapter is different, i think only difference is mounting point and another on m.2 ssd slot mounting point again different, but both laptop`s on HP website says m.2 2242 version (size).
all othe mounting point and visual part all the connectors are located in same place on both mobo.
so what do you think? will 840 G2 mobo works on 850 G1 laptop? wifi i will use old version i already have and just fix it someway without screws.

the wifi module has a different slot on the picture
850G1 is MINI PCIe and the 840G2 is M.2
there are adapters, but not sure if these would fit. Better get a M.2 wifi/BT module (about $5-$10)

I´m not referring to the SSD, only to the wifi module which will not fit into the slot. Not only the screw holes are different, but the connection as well

edit:
display should work, both have 30pin eDP slots

you will have to find out yourself, could fit, but still different laptops

didnot knew those connectors also have names m.2 and pcie and though its about ssd 😀
thanks for info

it gets all very complicated...
seems it is better to pay a bit more and buy the mobo specifically for this model.
thanks for helping me making decision.

The Samsung PM991 is
M.2/M-Key (PCIe 3.0 x4)

The WesternDigital SN520 is
M.2/B-M-Key (PCIe 3.0 x2)

both will fit to the boards

edit:

if you find one more model type with only B-key, this wouldn´t fit, cause it´s only a SATA M.2
some offer B+M key as well but are only SATA as well.

M.2 M-key or M.2 B+M-key NVME/PCIe is the only thing you should be looking for
