Swapping parts between PC's - Will it work??

Hey guys,
i've just been given 2 older pc by different people, but different parts are missing from each.
My question is if i take some parts out of one of the pcs and complete the other, will it still work.
Things I will have to replace:
2 fans (irrelevant but just putting everything down)
hard drive
optical drive

There is also a GPU (not sure what one) that i can remove however the pc i would move it into has integrated graphics in the CPU so it is not necassary

sure, hdd and optical drives are no problem - as long as you find the correct cables to connect them.
