Can someone clue me in on where the sweet spot is on value on current displays?

I would like a display with min. of 1200 vertical resolution and gaming is not a priority.

Viewing angles on TNs haven't really improved. I think there's a physical limitation in "twist".

E-IPS is all the rage right now. It's a slightly cheaper, slightly faster form of IPS. Its only downside is that it's 6bit (plus frc to simulate 8 bit). Dell's u2412 seems to be the best value, it costs less than other 24" e-ips displays, and gets better reviews.

If you want larger than 24" and If you can wait, CES is just around the corner. We might see some new innovative monitors then.

I'd expect Dell to intro a u2712 at some point.
How is the viewing angle on the TN displays these days? My current old monitor is a Samsung 204B, and the angles are so bad it is unusable in portrait mode.

Looking at these in person is useless in the stores.
