Hello! Noob question,

So I noticed two of my switches' LED indicators are solid amber when the devices connected to those ports are off. One of them belongs to a FreeNas server and the other belongs to a Windows Server 2012 server. Vacating the switch are two servers and 2 regular Windows 8 desktops. Cisco's definition for a solid amber indicator is "The device is powered on but is not functioning properly". My question is, when all devices are powered off, why are just the server LED indicators on and my regular desktop computers LED indicators are off?

Thanks!

Solution
I am assuming you are talking about the port indicator LEDs and not the switch status LED.
What switch are you using?
Some NICS stay powered to provide WOL ability. This can be enough to keep the connection "alive" on the switch, thus the indicator still shows connected.
