Okay, so I am looking to get a new m.2 ssd that I want to install in my pc. I already have one installed that is gen 3 m.2 ssd. The one I'm looking to get is gen 4. When I built my pc I didn't think about that a b550 motherboard only has one m.2 slot that supports gen 4 m.2 ssd's so therefore I installed my current m.2 ssd in the gen 4 slot.

So to use the extra performane from the gen 4 m.2 slot on my new m.2 ssd, I'll have to switch place with my current ssd. After I do that I want to keep my old ssd as the boot drive. Therefore I wonder how I can keep it as my boot drive even though I move it to another slot. Or does it keep it as the boot drive automatically?

Any answers are very much appreciated!

Solution
You 'might' have to change boot order, but assuming that all of the OS partitions are on the M.2 you are discussing, it should be fine.
I would just disconnect other drives, move this one, boot and check order, then put in and reconnect others. Shouldn't be an issue.
