If I connect my desktop to the router everything works fine. If I connect my switch to the router and the computer to the switch the internet doesn't work. No lights light up on the switch or the network card. And the network icon shows in the task bar that nothing is plugged in.

It works fine on my laptop and PS4. So I assume it has to do with the ethernet card on my computer. It is built into the motherboard it is a Asus Maximus gene 4. The switch is a http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000FNFSPY/ref=od_aui_detailpages00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I don't really know where start. I tried basic power cycle stuff but outside of that I don't know. Can anyone lend some insight?

And just to clarify the laptop and the PS4 will work at the same time when connected to the switch. Thanks for the help.

"If I connect my desktop to the router everything works fine. If I connect my switch to the router and the computer to the switch the internet doesn't work.
.... So I assume it has to do with the ethernet card on my computer. " - No. its the switch.

Just leave the desktop connected to the router.

So neither of these answers explain why everything works fine on my laptop. And leaving it connected to the router is not an option because then I wouldn't be able to have more than one device connected at a time.

No. The laptop and PS4 work fine through the switch. It is just the desktop that won't work through the switch. Also the router isn't in the same room, I can't run another cable from the router to the other room.
