Switched OS to SSD

Basically, I built myself a new Gaming PC. I decided to get a SSD purely for gaming while using two older 500GB Caviar Blue HDDs. They were rather slow and boot up was probably around 1 minute + loading closer to 3 minutes. So I installed the OS on the SSD. Boot and loading is now about 4 second, it's amazing! But my problem is, I want to use the SSD for the OS and maybe a select game or two.

Currently everything is on my other 500GB HD which is where I would like to leave it. But the problem is loading everything or launching programs. Is it possible to keep my OS on the SSD and not have it as the C: drive?

Can I get around not having to reinstall everything so it works again? Hope I'm being clear in my goal!

Just in case, an example would be I want to play BF3, I go to my (F drive (which used to be my (C) and try to launch the game. But it doesn't work anymore obviously.

The other thing is I don't want to be forced to install programs on the SSD which never give the option to select the installation location. (Also when using the start menu the shortcuts to everything typically relate to the C: drive)

I'm sure people have done this! I also still have the OS on my 500GB HD as well if that helps, figure it wouldn't hurt to leave on there just in case!

You should have just put your HDDs in a RAID 0 array and saved your money.My RIAD 0 array is as fast as a slower end SSD.

Wouldn't that mean I'd have 500GB storage tops anyway? I thought about that but I need close to the 1TB I'd get for the stuff I store. For the deal I got the SSD I'm not worried anyway. Regardless! That doesn't help me with my current problem 😛

just open the HDD files and find what games you want to copy over... since BF3 is your game i would start by downloading and installing a fresh copy of Origin and once you have a game folder set for your OS drive go find the game folder on your HDD and copy it over. then you can go back and delete it from your HDD (only do this once you make sure it works on your SSD)

If you have two 500GB drives set in RAID 0 you would have (close to) 1TB. RAID 0 basically stripes the information across both hard drives. Where on the other hand you have RAID 1 that mirrors one hard drive onto another, in that case you would only have 500GB to use with two 500GB drives in RAID 1.

Your purchase of an SSD was a wise choice. I had a raid 0 set up but recently bought a SSD to put my OS and main apps on. I defeinetly prefer the SSD over the RAID 0 set up.

I personally just backed up all media and reinstalled my OS on the SSD and then labeled my extra drives random letters and use them for all my media. Any current games I'm playing that desperately need the loading times to be a bit quicker I just install on my SSD. But so far I haven't noticed much of a difference in that regards. Encoding, converting, and moving large files has been mind bending though.

I've found myself sitting there sometimes after pasting a large file staring at the screen waiting for the windows copy loading bar UI to pop up. Then I realize its not popping up because it already made the copy. Craziness. Can't wait for these things to drop even more in price.
