Switched to a much faster internet package and still get poor WiFi; Also, why so many network adapters?

My new internet comes with 2G and 5G, and I have already sussed out that my laptop does not have the capability for 5G. I also know that internet speed is dependent on a lot of other things, including router placement and computer hardware. However, I am still getting less than 5 mbps fairly consistently. Besides buying a 5G adapter dongle, how can I maximize what I get?

Model: HP ENVY Notebook - 15t-ae000 CTO
OS: Windows 10 (64-bit)
Wireless: Broadcom BCM43142 802.11 bgn WiFi M.2 adapter

My drivers should all be up to date. Also, in trying to figure this out myself, I have run across a large list of adapters on my computer. Am I riddled with malware or is all of it important? I recognize my adapter and VPN, but nothing else.

The worst part of this is that another laptop in the home, also on WIFI, gets about 22 mbps despite being a much slower machine overall (newer, but bargain-barrel).
