Switched to SSD for the first time -- Extremely slow speeds when extracting a ZIP file?

Hi all, I have just made the switch to my first SSD. Well actually, I just got a new laptop (Dell Inspirion 7577) which has a 256gb SSD along with a 1TB storage drive.

I am trying to extract a 55mb ZIP file which contains some documents from my old laptop, and noticing the speed for doing so is going VERY slow. The speed Windows is showing is actually UNDER 1KB A SECOND a lot of the time.

One thing I will mention is there are some game development related files in the ZIP file from a class from my bachelors degree. Still, I feel like I have extracted this ZIP file before on multiple other machines and had it not take any longer than 10-15 min tops.

It is currently scheduled to take 3.5 hours to extract the contents of the file out onto my SSD.

Should I be extracting onto the 1TB HDD instead, or am I missing something in my settings I can/should change? Is it a fundamental misunderstanding with using the SSD, are they simply not good for extracting ZIP files due to the size of the cache or something (user error?).

I already set all of the easy settings I could to High Performance mode. Thus, I am super confused why it is extracting ZIP files slower than my 6 years old HP Pavilion would.

There are 156 free gigabytes worth of space on the SSD. I haven't really downloaded anything yet, so it's basically brand new (just got it yesterday).

When fully extracted I think the folder totals about 2.5 gigs, but not more than that.

OK then...space is no problem.
I'd say...stop the current extraction.
Start it again, but extract tot he HDD. See what happens.

So I just tried extracting to the HDD instead, and it's scheduled to take only a handful of minutes in comparison. It's scheduled to take 18 minutes, which still seems a bit long, but clearly the winner.

Didn't stop the other one either extracting to the SSD, so the performance was divided between the two.

This is definitely a strange issue. I was under the impression SSD would be very very fast for this kind of thing and that was a major selling point on this laptop for me, I wanted to be able to do development on it.

Edit: You were correct on there being quite a few individual files though. I believe there are around 6000 unique files on the ZIP file.

Any ideas what could be wrong with it? I am actually really stuck. Researching it now obviously, but stuck. I can't make any more progress on what I was planning to get done today until the extract is completed.

This is straight depressing LOL.
