I'm looking to SLI 970's, I'm currently running a 270 and a 270x in crossfire. I know that you can pretty much Crossfire almost any AMD card, but I know it's not the same case with SLI. What specs would have to be exactly the same in order for SLI to work? I'm looking at a ZOTAC GeForce GTX 970 as my first 970, but say I tried to SLI with a MSI GeForce GTX 970... what would happen?

well whilst it does work, theres no point risking compaitibility when you can usually get 2 cards the same (unless you're buying used). If you are buying used then definatly dont, you don't know what settings have been changed, is there a new BIOS on one of the cards or something. It's genreally kinda silly. And If you can afford 2 970's, you should be able to afford a 980Ti, which is better, and you should always buy the most powerful single card with your money, because later on you can get a second one, whereas you'd have to buy a new gfx card all together otherwise.

Basically it's not really worth it, unless you already have one 970, which you dont because you have AMD.

Just get a 980Ti, or if you really want 2 x 970 then get the same dang cards and save yourself the hassel.

Dude, the cheapest 980 ti I'm seeing is MAYBE $550, if I'm lucky. I can find 270's for around $200, so I honestly don't see the logic. But thanks for your input. I could afford a 270, and then save up for another. For a 980 ti I'd probably have to just wait for tax returns or something lol. And if I'm going to be spending $600+ there's a much wider range of options, but for the 200ish price range for two cards, 270 is definitely the best bang for buck option. 2 270's will get me 40% more performance in most situations than a single 980 (regular, not ti) but the price difference from a 270 to a 280 is like 100 bucks.

You said you have a 270 and a 270X currently, you then said you're looking at getting 970's in SLI, can you mix cards. I'm saying there's no point ebcause it's not worth the risk. I'm then saying it's a better option to get a 980Ti, because it will scale better than 2 970's, but still cost the same (970 is about $300) and if a 980Ti is $550, then it's cheaper.

So why are you now going on about buying 270's if you already have them?
