I am about to switch motherboards from a raffle that i won. As you can see i inky have a G4560 the motherboard that i won is a Z270 Gaming M5. I dont like to sell it as many people would have wanted it lol. I need to know what i need to reinstall before switching motherboards. Don't worry. I'll sell my old one and use that to buy a new processor lol maybe even sell my processor too, speaking of, whats a good replacement? I dont think i need a k series for now bc i only have 2400mhz memory and not overclockable by any means. Any help would be appreciated.

Virtually all apps, games included will put entries in the windows registry.
If that registry gets cleared because of a clean install, then those games will not run, even though they are not on the new windows drive.

If those games are steam games, I understand that there is a process to move them without reinstalling.

There should be no problem booting between a B chipset and a Z chipset.
If you can, just install the new motherboard drivers.
The lan drivers and sound drivers may well be different.

Google "how to move windows to a new motherboard"
There are some tips on this.
I have not used them, but I recall one of interest that tells how to prepare windows for a move.

well i've switched from amd (athlon 7550) to my current build in which i reactivated win10 with the said method you have linked. Are there any more stuff i should look out for other than win10 deactivating? Like chipset problem between the motherboards (from b series to z series)

As with any motherboard swap, it may demand a full reinstall.
Prepare for that.

If you can boot with the new motherboard, then you can install the drivers for the new motherboard and be good.

A clean reinstall of windows is not that bothersome and it is nice to get a clean restart.
But, If you have many apps or games that you also need to reinstall, then you have a decision to make.

Hmmm all my games are on another partition of the disk and i dont have an extra hdd to put the game back ups on so can i jist like format the partition where the OS is located or not?

You got a free motherboard.
Invest $50 on a new drive.

Well, if i buy an ssd will i be able to keep my games or not? Thats what i want to know lol 🙁 well i can still use my G4560-Z270 if ever that works i'll just up the procie when funds are in place
