Switching my monitor

Hello all,

I'm going to preface this by saying this is probably a stupid question...

So I'm doing my build at college ordering all the parts here but my monitor I plan to use is still at home. If I used my TV at my dorm for the time being, booted up my new build on it the first time just to install everything (OS, update drivers, etc.) or even do some browsing, will I need to change anything when I take it home to my monitor? Like I said, I'll be using an HDTV with an HDMI cord at school until I go home to my Asus vg248qe monitor with display port.

Asking just to be safe! Thanks.

Solution
You wont need to change anything once configured as it should auto-detect.

Now you may have trouble first installing windows on your tv.
I would suggest borrowing a monitor from a buddy and get windows going, then switch to TV, and then you should have no problems after that, and no problems getting system to detect monitor when you go back home.

Why would I have trouble? Isn't it basically a monitor? I would just go to HDMI.

It will work fine, its just plug and play as long as it has the right connection types (most TV and monitors should have HDMI cable nowadays).

But i think he was referring to how older motherboard only have VGA connections and no HDMI slot, so you will have to connect an old monitor with vga to your motherboard and then install the drivers for your GPU before you can use the output on your graphics card. But nowadays almost all motherboards have DVI, HDMI and/or Displayport so it shouldn't be a problem.

Thanks. That guy said I might have trouble using my TV, though.

Honestly you shouldn't have an issue, i just built a PC like a week ago for my cousin and I used my TV for it while i was setting it up, and the connection type was HDMI.

Alright sweet. Thanks dude.
