As the titel says, my new monitor will not properly "achieve" 1920x1080. I can set the resolution without any difficulties all the way up to 1680x1050 but beyond that I get black borders around my screen. It still shows an image of the desktop but at 1920x1080 I get these massive black boarders around it and when I try to use the auto adjust function on my monitor it simply gives me a messages saying: "Auto Adjustment: Not available"
There is no option that I can find in the display menu which will make auto adjustment available. I have downloaded and installed the latest drivers for both my monitor and my graphics card (ASUS Radeon HD7870 DirectCU II - 2GB GDDR5).
Is it as simple as the HDMI resolution isn't higher than 1680x1050 on this card? The ASUS homepage says the following:
http://www.asus.com/Graphics_Cards/AMD_Series/HD7870DC2T2GD5/#specifications
D-Sub Max Resolution : 2048x1536
DVI Max Resolution : 2560x1600
... but it says nothing about HDMI.
The annoying thing is that this is my second monitor. My other one is a SyncMaster 226BW, which HAS an optimal resolution of 1680x1050. This one is connected to the DVI-output on my graphics card, which should have a max output of 2560x1600. My thought was to switch the cables around and put my new S22B350H in the DVI (requires adapter or a DVI cable, both of which I have) and my older 226BW in the HDMI (requires DVI to HDMI adapter since the 226BW only supports DVI input. Which I don't have).
But will this work? Or will I simply get a 1680x1050 resolution with a black border?
Any other solutions? Or do I have to buy a DVI to HDMI adapter?
Thank you.
