Hello all,
I've seen many post about this but none solve my problem. I have a new personally custom built rig with Windows 10 as my OS. Within 5min of playing any PC game my system freezes up and I have to restart my machine. I have all the latest drivers, disabled my anti-virus software, limited my background apps, updated my bios, instructed windows not to lower power to the pcie slots, and all the other normal things most people advise to do. I have been running task manager during gameplay and noticed my game was using about 20% cpu, 1.5gbs of mem, and hardly no ssd usage. please help I will post my specs below. Gaming is now impossible. Thank you

CPU: AMD fx-9590 8 core
video card: GeForce gtx 980 ti
Sound card: SB Z
OS Win 10 pro 64bit build 10240
MB: Asus Formula V
Ram: 32gb
PS: 1500 watt
HD: 960gb SSD main + 1.5tb hdd storage
direct x: 12

p.s. going to try down clocking ram next...

Could be anything since you didn't state what type of error shows up. Here's some possible issues (and tests) in order of likelihood:
- Bad drivers, make sure you download the newest Win 10 drivers from the nvidia website, and other drivers for your other components.
- Ram issues, run a proper scan for memory issues and try running the system with only one stick.
-Overheating of components, record the temperatures to see if something is outside safe bounds.
- Power issues, record voltages. If 12V line drops below 11.5V, it might be a bad PSU
- General OS corruption, run sfc /scannow in an administrator command prompt.
- General disk failure. Start by checking the SMART values and doing a disk check.

There is no error to report. I'm running mem test now. Then I will down clock my ram. My mb and ram can run higher mhz then my cpu can handle. I'm hoping that's it. Also there is no over heating issues

Was having the same issue and I have the same Cpu. I placed the power plan to balanced from high and the lock ups stopped. Of course I spent 2 days updating, uninstalling, reinstalling, running different tests only to find it was a problem with Windows 10 and the power plan after the last update they shoved down my throat.

Try that see if it stops the lock ups for you.

I just installed the same CPU as you, fx-9590, and am having the exact same problem, only on Win7. Did you ever find a fix for this?
