I run my computer on a open test bench I want to know is this not a good idea vs your standard case my room were The computer is located is equipped with a large celling fan and another upright fan which blows in the direction plus I have a/c. I don't notice any high temps but I have read that air not flowing through the heat sinks is a problem. I like the open setup but not at the cost of my precious hardware

Solution
An open set up is okay provided it has sufficient protection from any contact with objects that may damage it or from dust that is the #1 enemy of any computer or processor.

But if the mobo is enclosed with a strong mesh like (made of aluminium if possible) structure which would prevent any unwanted collision with any hard object, that would be a very good idea. + this mesh structure will allow air flow without disturbance and also the setup reasonably visible.
