I turned on the computer around 11 am. Around 7, I forced shutdown because it froze then I turned it back on and I am getting a black screen with a white cursor in the left hand corner. (Does one force shutdown make boot failure? I have force shutdown on many computers due to freezing reasons on my laptop and it is still running.) I have cleared cmos and made boot priority my HDD. Still nothing. I took apart my com, and just looked around, clear some dust, and make sure everything was in its place. Plugged it back in and still the black screen. I have no clue what to do.

My pc specs:

asus m5a78l-m lx pro
fx-6300
1tb WD hdd
radeon hd 7770
2x2gbs 1333mhz

I can go into my bios and boot menu. When i go into boot menu, it asks me if I want to go into the cdrom or hdd. I choose my hdd and the black screen appears. Is my hdd fried? How so?

Solution
So here is the solution:

I checked for everything and came out to be the gpu driver being outdated. At first it could not be a virus, it was just too quick to comprehend.

Take out your gpu and go into safemode. If everything is clean then try updating your gpu. REMEMBER TO BACK EVERYTHING BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING.

I do too. I have installed w8.1 and because the mobo is so old, some of the features were not fully downloaded from the 8.1. I should have gone with the 7. Not only that but my gpu is the same. There is this one file not downloaded but still it has done wonders for a budget deal.
