One of the best bits of advice I ever saw here on Tom's went something like this:

Question: I want a graphics card capable of playing games at 1080p/60FPS/max settings for the next 5 years. My budget is £500.

Answer: Buy a £300 today, put £200 in the bank. In two and a half years' time sell your graphics card for ~£100 and buy another new £300 graphics card.

But sure, I agree with you, the GTX780 should definitely run anything at 1080p for the foreseeable future!

Thanks Again that is a very helpful list
i have been looking at the asus z87i deluxe motherboard for $200, do you think this is overkill or is it a good part to have
thanks

Reading the specs it certainly looks like a nice motherboard, but whether it's worth the extra money over the ASRock, I'm not sure.

Also it's just occurred to me, you realise that the 780 is massive overkill for 1080p? You really want to be looking at 2560x1440 screens for a graphics card that powerful. All that power would be wasted at 1080p.

I would like to use a 780 so i can run games on max settings for a while at 1080p
