Now that I have my system up and running, I'm planning for my next build.

Here's what I've come up with so far:

Intel i7-4790K 4.0GHZ
Asus Z97 Maximus VII Ranger
G.Skill Ripjaws X 16GB F3-14900CL10D-16GBX
Samsung 850 EVO 250GB SSD
2x Western Digital Caviar Black 2TB HDD

I am still undecided on the GPU and the PSU. The case will probably be the NZXt Phantom or one of its variants. Time frame would be Q4 2016.
Thanks in advance for the advice!

620watts is more than enough for any single gpu card on the consumer market, however it is not enough for most cards in sli it would power two 950's or 960's in sli and other low power cards but it would struggle with...
I think the asus maximus boards are very unnecessary and cost too much. What is your budget for a psu and gpu?

If you have that seasonic psu in your signature there i would just use that unless its really old or something, thats a very good psu no reason to replace it.

Well, for my current build I spent $67 for my PSU and $170 for my GPU. Is 620W enough to power a system with say SLI? or even a single enthusiast level GPU? I will be keeping my existing system, so the one I'm building will be separate.

It's useless to plan that far in advance. By that time, it would be almost impossible to find that CPU and motherboard unless you bought them used. DDR3 will probably be more expensive than DDR4 by that time. We should be on Kaby Lake and the 200 series chipset by then. SSDs and hard drives should also have advanced somewhat. And we should be discussing Volta the successor to Arctic Islands.

The best you can do is look at the various price breakdowns and decide what segments you're interested in, then keep an eye out for news. Or any game changers.

Hmmm... good point. Thing is, most of the time here where I'm from we're a bit delayed when it comes to tech, so these parts will most probably still be around by the end of next year.

I would agree the market will most likely be totally different in 2017.

I have edited the post to state only until Q4 2016.
