System Builder Hardware Upgrades

I have Windows 7 64-bit (System Builder). I would like to know what I can and cannot upgrade because I was told that you cannot upgrade the hardware. If anyone knows exactly what and what you cannot upgrade, I would appreciate a short list.

To be specific, I am looking to upgrade my RAM from 8GB to 16GB, and my Core i3 processor to a Core i7 eventually. Also, if anyone has any suggestions on RAM speed. I don't know much about DDR2, DDR3, DDR4 and the PCxxxx. Also, if there is a "most efficient" RAM speed with Core i7.

Its generally tied to the motherboard, so the changes you want to make are fine.

As for the RAM, look up your motherboard and what it can handle and go with that.
