I built a new system, i mean using used parts but all parts are working. Today i was almost done, as i just needed to install the harddrive. My harddrive is some used hitachi 2tb hdd.

This harddrive gets detected by the bios just fine and then i plug in my usb (that has unactivated windows 10 on it) to install windows. Windows 10 set up boots, I choose "Home" etc etc, then i select the drive for windows to install in. Everything seems well for like a minute, its telling me its getting windows files ready to installation then it just give me an error.

"Windows 10 error code 0x8007025D" "Windows cannot install required files"

btw i tried two different usbs with unactivated windows 10 on them and still nothing.

Please help a soul, I'm just trying to buy some games for the steam summer sale atm...

is there any other way or hints to find out if my hdd is failing? Is the fact that it has this error code a sign that it's a dying hdd? I don't have another system to test the drivers for the hitachi hdd on. I'm also new to this pc building thing.

Since the HDD isn't new there is a good chance that it may be faulty as suggested by The Paladin, you really need to confirm that by testing it before looking elsewhere for the cause. From what I'm reading elsewhere on that specific error, it's either faulty boot media (unlikely since you've tried two different ones) or faulty destination media.

You can test it on your existing system if you use a bootable test utility which runs on it's own, integrated OS (usually DOS) in RAM. For Hitachi drives, the original version of Drive Fitness Test for DOS should work:

Of course, you''ll need access to a working Windows PC in order to create a bootable CD from the ISO file.
A friend or family-member perhaps?

at this point, i tried several options, i couldn't figure out how to do the test, but i tried something different with the boot. i clean all partitions, and i no longer get the error, i just get a blue screen with "Windows ran into a problem and needs to restart" every time now
