System cant boot

I have a sony vaio model vpccb35fn with window 7 64bit 500 gb sata hdd 4gb ram and i5 processor. I was using it and it freezed and then i turned it off nd started the startup repair but it hangs on the blue screen then i tried to install a new window 7 but it hangs at setup is starting then i tried to install window xp it gives the bsod error nd it wont load tried to do a factory reset but it hangs too nd wont go furthure is it the hdd because i dont really know like i cant check the bad secotors with chkdsk because window xp give bsod before that

Checking that disk is a good idea... I would be checking the RAM first... Memtest86

Did it pass complete no errors. so is it the hard drive
