Hi all,
I am looking at 2 builds. The Intel systems with i5-7600k and the AMD R5 1600x.
Intel Build is here: https://au.pcpartpicker.com/list/LgLfzM
AMD Build is here: https://au.pcpartpicker.com/list/jzcLRG

I am leaning towards to the AMD build at the moment mainly due to the price as it's available on EBAY with 20% discount :bounce:. . I hope I made a good choice with picking AMD instead of the Intel? Please correct me if I am wrong.

Well, now is the real question, as you can see on the AMD build pcpartpicker, the CPU Cooler Gammaxx 400 isn't compatible with the R5 1600x neither with the mobo MSI AM4 ATX X370 Gaming Pro Carbon. I did few research and can't see why/how it is not compatible. There is no compatibility details especially on the mobo and Gammaxx400. Do anyone have experienced this? Is that just an error on the website? Appreciate some advise or direction with this. I am happy to pick another board if I have too to make it compatible. (ASUS AM4 ATX Prime X370-PRO, Asrock AM4 ATX Fatal1ty X370 Gaming K4, Asrock AM4 ATX Fatal1ty AB350 Gaming K4, ASUS AM4 ATX Prime B350-PLUS OR MSI AM4 ATX B350 PC MATE). Am trying not to change the cooler if possible. I like this cooler for some reason.

Note: I am not heavy gamer or video editor. Not a big "clocker" either. I am only into mid end games. I am planning to use my GTX570 at the moment as low in cash but will be upgrading to GTX970 or GTX980 later time. Appreciate your response.

Cheers.

I personally prefer Intel. It's more expensive, sure, but they have always had better performance as far as I know, and less heating problems. I do some mid-end gaming as well, and I have been using Intel's default Skylake cooler. Of course it's better to be safe, but I have had no issues, With an AMD, I could. I do have a GTX970, though (probably did not need to dump that much money on this thing...but it'll stay modern for longer at least!)

I don't know about the cooler, but PC Part Picker does state it is not compatible with both the processor and the motherboard...I would not risk that.

The Intel build looks good to me!

I only built two computers so I am no expert...Just giving my opinion :)

No worries. I agree with Intel but hmmmmm dont know. My first amd was back in 2003. can't even remember what processor back then. Been on intel since then. just want to give it another go after 14yrs lol.
maybe i should just find a compatible fan instead of taking risk :/

Anyone else with any thought on this?

Hi Mike,
Can I please ask what fan you're using?

I'm using CM Nepton 140XL now because it's OCed to 4GHz for 24/7 but until I got AM4 mounting kit for it, I used a cooler from my old FX 8350 processor and without overclocking it was quite enough so any half decent air cooler should be good.

I am currently leaning towards the 1600 instead of the 1600x as apparently it comes with a pretty good CPU Fan.
At least I don't have to worry about the fan now :??:

1600x, or any higher "X" models don't come with a cooler because they don't have a cooler that can make it go over 4GHz which X models can easily achieve. With non-x and it's stock cooler you should be able to have a steady 3.6GHz but that's when x models just start working properly. Although a bit more expensive with $20 -$30 aftermarket cooler you don't even have to bother overclocking. To get to 1600x performance with questionable OC performance you would still have to get aftermarket cooler.
