I recently installed a water cooling system over my fan cooler CPU cooling system for my i7 6700k. The installation seemed to be okay, and worked without any issues until three weeks after installation. The system froze and will not boot. I fear that my CPU is broken but I hope to be able to get a better understanding of what is going on in my system.

Specs: msi z170a gaming m5 mobo
i7 6700k CPU
980ti gpu
16 gb (2 sticks) of ram
Kraken x62 CPU cooler
PSU is in good condition

My system worked fine the first few weeks of use once I installed the kraken. The CPU however stayed at a temp around 60° C while I was gaming. My pc froze and became unresponsive. This has happened once before but I was able to leave it for a bit, and it worked again in a little while. But this isn't the case this time.

When I boot, the system lights turn on, ram gets hot (but not too hot), and all system fans turn on. Based on my symptoms what does it sound like may have happened? Do I need to drop $450 to get a spare mobo and CPU?

Mm....it seems that you may have not fit your CPU cooler properly(maybe its just loose or something). I suggest you remove the cooler and put it back properly again and see. Try reinserting all the connections too on the system. I don't think there's a fault with any of your system components. It shouldn't be faulty, so just try reinserting everything once again properly and apply the thermal paste properly too if necessary.

None of that worked... I endedi up buying a new motherboard and the system still wont post. At least I'm getting error codes now. I asked another question regarding my new issues though. Its a lot more detailed than this one.

I tested the PSU and it reported the correct voltages. Is there anything else I can do besides trying a new psu?
