System error

At Problemsolving
(via Configurationscreen-System-Performance-Filesystem-Problemsolving)
(have Win in dutch, am not sure of the right appellations !!)
the item "option to desactivate System recovery" is activated.
After desactivation and restart of the pc, the item is again activated.
This function never gave problems before, but lately, after a system-crash,
I reformatted the HD and reloaded WinME. From then the problem occurred.
What is curious too : the switch from "Performance" and "Filesystem" and
further to "Problemsolving" take more time then usual.
Has someone an explanation for this problem ?

It's possibly due to a number of things -
among them....

1) Not enough hard disk space on drive C: (min 400MB free space required)
2) corrupt SR control files (are you running Norton cr&pware?)
3) GoBack may be installed, if you used an OEM System Recovery disk to do
the reinstall, rather than an OS disk.

Check Add/Remove for GoBack
Check the HD free space
try a manual clearance of the SR files....
Boot to DOS, using your Startup Disk (if you don't have one and can't make
one from Start | Add/Remove Programs, then download a diskmaker from
www.bootdisk.com, and create the floppy by running the file)

At the A:\> prompt, type the following commands (followed by [return])

ATTRIB -S -R -H C:\_RESTORE

REN C:\_RESTORE OLDREST

When the A:\> prompt returns, remove the floppy, and reboot the PC. The
Control Files will be rebuilt, and a Restore point should be created.

Then delete the C:\OLDREST folder, and reboot again.

Finally adjust the space allocated to the restore folder

- Can't find GoBack
- Have enough free space (> 10 GB)
- Followed your instructions to clear SR files. After Reboot there is no
_RESTORE file in C. The created OLDREST file is empty.
Is this normal ?

Is the *StateMgr entry present and checked in MSConfig | Startup?

Indeed, Mike, the StateMgr was desactivated in the startup list !!! After
activation the problem is gone.

Sorry to have chipped in to your thread. Didn't expect to hit the nail so
quickly so thought I'd give something for Walter to check whilst you were
elsewhere.

e-mail to follow but personally have never played with SR policies in XP
as I tend only to work with individual and soho systems.
