I've been having game crashes and system freezes while I tried to play some of the games.
I'll be playing a game for about 20-30 minutes, then suddenly the game starts acting like it's using 100% CPU, GPU, ... and then nothing except a PC restart helps. Even if I close the game, whole Windows is hugely lagging and freezing. When I move the mouse, I can move it for 1-2 seconds, then it freezes and then lags for the next 10 seconds. Nothing helps.
I closed every application I could see (not those that run in background though), eventually the system becomes normal - meaning I can move the mouse around almost normally until I click on Start icon, then it freezes and lags again.

I tried to play with Task Manager open to see what happens, but it happens all of a sudden and Task Manager can't process what's going on (CPU is stuck on 100% without showing what is actually taking it) when the freeze happens, so I'm looking at old data on my second monitor.
When I do however manage to get Task Manager running in sync, it seems like everything is normal, then GPU comes to 100% on a random application that is still open (alternating between browser, then MSI Afterburner, then the game if it's still running, ...) for about 2 seconds and then down again.

I'm not OC anything in my system.
I reinstalled Windows.
I replaced my SSD that my Windows is running on.
I replaced my RAM.
I reapplied thermal paste on my GPU (it used to overheat on any graphic intensive game with 80-85°C, now it's working better).

My specs:
CPU - Intel Core i7-9700K - 8x 3.60GHz
GPU - MSI GeForce RTX 2070 AERO 8G
Motherboard - Gigabyte Z390 AORUS PRO WIFI Gaming
RAM - Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 3600 MHz C18 XMP (2x 16GB)
PSU - Corsair RM550x v2 - 550 Watt
CPU cooler - Noctua NH-D15 CPU - 140/140mm
Case fans - 7x Silent Wings 3 (3x front, 3x top, 1x rear)
SSD - Samsung 1TB M.2 SSD 970 EVO Plus
SSD 2 - Samsung 1TB SSD 860 EVO
HDD - 1TB
Monitor 1 - AOC AGON AG271QG 27'' 165Hz 2560x1440
Monitor 2 - Iiyama XUB2792QSU 27'' 2560x1440

Anyone have ANY idea what's going on here? What could be the cause of what's happening and what can I do?

Different PSU? I thought the cause of the issue would point more to the GPU?
Sadly I currently don't have one to test. I might try to borrow it in a couple of days. But could you please elaborate on why do you think the PSU might be an issue?

Because the power supply connects to literally everything, a faulty supply can cause all kinds of odd behavior, especially when we consider everything else you mentioned that you have tried in your original post. If the power it provides to any number of components in the system isn't stable, it can easily result in stability issues like you have described.

Do you know of any software that could track what's going on with my system's hardware? Something that could dump logs etc?
It might take me some time to get a spare PSU to test with.

Could a PSU cause these errors too?

In one of the games, the logs are as follows:
GFX 20:22:14.723 DirectX call failed with error code -2005270523
GFX 20:22:14.724 PerfNotifier: [Render] [APIErrors] Occurrences [1] Peak [1.000000]
GFX 20:22:14.725 Attempting device reboot
GFX 20:22:14.749 Final device refCount is 15

GFX 20:22:14.749 Adapter "Microsoft Basic Render Driver"
GFX 20:22:14.749 Skipped adapter "Microsoft Basic Render Driver" because no outputs

GFX 20:27:16.222 PerfNotifier: [ResourceCache] [Evicted] Occurrences [31] Peak [128.187500]

Happened when my game froze for 2 seconds on one occurrence and it happened again when my system started acting as described in my first post.

Another game had the following log:
[5541.87] Critical: appError called: Assertion failed: appErrorf [File:G:\BuildAgent\work\9a884cb2af69f6ff\main\XCOM2\Development\Src\D3D11Drv\Src\D3D11Device.cpp] [Line: 649]
The Direct3D 11 device that was being used has been removed. Please restart the game.
...
[5541.87] Critical: Windows GetLastError: The operation completed successfully. (0)

I've received the message The Direct3D 11 device that was being used has been removed. Please restart the game. from another game I've played.

Got me thinking ... could the low amount of Wattage on the PSU cause these errors? As in, due to lack of power, the GPU gets disconnected etc?

Apart from the specs above I do also own a gaming mouse, keyboard, mousepad all with RGB along with RGB speakers. In addition, my monitors also have two USB connectors on which I use USB ports for other accessories like phone charging and my headset.

This is my setup:
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/K7GKgJ

My games are crashing and system is getting frozen/laggy and game crash logs often show:
"Graphics device reboot queued due to d3d failure"
"The Direct3D 11 device that was being used has been removed"

I've tried reinstalling Windows, replace the main SSD, I switched out RAMs, I'm not OC anything and so on.
I sadly don't have any spare components for me to test how my system would behave if I switched out any of the main components, so I'm left with guesses.

A few people pointed out that my PSU might actually cause my GPU to crash/restart due to 550W being too low for my specs.

What do you guys think?
