Solution

OK, missed responding to that.. see if any of the following suggestions helps:

1. as the BIOS finishes posting, tap the F8 key once a second, or hold F8 pressed till the Safe Mode options list appears on the screen and select Safe Mode, logon and disable Hibernation. If it doesn't make a difference proceede to suggestion 2.

2. Or turn the computer on and leave it on till it boots... it may take a long time but leave it alone for at least an hour before giving up... and proceede to suggestion 3.

3. Download the Hiren's Boot CD or USB, boot into Hirens Boot CD/USB and select the Mini XP option... once you have access to the Hard Drive, delete...
The hiberfil.sys file which saves the power options data till the next restart, or should, as it apparently stores obsolete data... so it most likely gets corrupted over time of continuous usage... so it must be cleaned preferably in a regular basis. I find disabling Hibernation (in my case everytime the system starts slowing down or having instability), solves these Power Saving type of problems.

Disabling Hibernation deletes the Hiberfil.sys file and the next time you enable Hibernation again, the file is created fresh and trouble free. To disable Hibernation; Go to the Control Panel \ Power Options \ Hibernate \ remove the check mark from Enable Hibernation \ Press Apply and OK.. this will delete the file.. restart the computer, again enable Hibernation and the file will be created fresh and free of corruption and erratic performance... it should be even better if you clean the registry and temp folders before restarting the computer as Hiberfil, registry and temp folders tend to accumulate obsolete and corrupted data.

To delete temp folders: Go to Start \ Run \ type: "%temp%" and later type "temp", and delete the contained files and folders.. the temp files and folders in use will not delete so no special procedure or caution is necessary.

Explorer\Tools menu\Folder Options\View tab\mark "Show Hidden files and folders", and unmark the box in "Hide protected operating system files (recommended)"... restart the computer and boot your Windows XP

4. Last option; If your computer is a PC, and there is another one available: You can remove the Hard Drive and install it on the other computer as secondary drive and access it from that OS, unhide files as instructed in suggestion #3 and delete the C:\Hiberfil.sys file... install the hard drive back in your computer and boot it.

Use the Quick Links on the left to download the Hiren's Boot CD/USB
