Hello community!

Today I decided to replace my motherboard + CPU with newer ones. After assembling the bits and pieces, I proceeded to boot and got to the UEFI bios, everything was fine. I decided to install Windows 8.1 from an USB drive - the installer opened correctly, I formatted partition with old Win7 on it and proceeded to install Win8.1.

However, the installer stuck. After 15 minutes or so, I rebooted the computer, and it has been stucking at bios prompt (press del or F2 to enter uefi bios) ever since. I can't get to bios. I managed to narrow down the problem to the sata hdd - whenever it's connected, the computer hangs. When I disconnect it, I can get to bios with no problem. I tried changing SATA ports to no avail, as well as changing sata cables.

What should I do?

Tell me if there's need for additional information.

Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the answer!

Yes, it is a legit virgin Win8.1 :)

Will check on another PC, then.

Do I have to format the whole disk, or can I stick to formatting the partition where Win8.1 will be located?
