Hey all, having a lil prob with my overclock. Im Orthos stable at 3.23Ghz for around 9Hours. However today i decided to try and push my overclock a little further. Trying to bump up to 3.27Ghz and after around 30mins my system hangs, regardless of what im doing i.e surfing web, recieving email, or running Orthos. Orthos Reports no failure, system literally jus hangs.

System Specs;

E6420 2.13Ghz @ 3.27Ghz
Asus P5N-E Sli Mobo (BIOS Rev 0803)
GEIL ULL PC6400 DDR2 Dual Channel @ 818Mhz
BFG Geforce 8800 GTS (G92)
500Gb HDD
550W PSU

I've tried upping the vcore from 1.39v (3.23Ghz Stable) and am currently at 1.425v (Do I really need to go higher!?)
i've also upped my NB to 1.5xx from 1.393v and set my RAM voltage to 2.013v from 1.92v

Is there anything else i can try to stabalise this sys? seems hard to believe that a little increase of 50Mhz has caused me such a prob?

Cooling;

Southbridge is bare no heatsink, Northbridge has a Asus Heatsink that came with the board, and am using stock intel cooler for CPU. I have a 120mm fan on the rear of the case and one 80mm fan on the side of the case direcly above the CPU.

Have jus purchased a Zalman ZM-NB47J Cooler for my SB and a Noctua NC-U6 Dual Heatpipe NB cooler for my NB
Aswell as a Zalman CNPS8700-NT CPU Cooler and some AS5 to aid in the cooling no of which is installed yet though.

Ok heres some things. I know with my board, when I O/C my CPU is O/C's my memory as well. It might be your memory clock thats too high idk for sure. But heres a good seconds point to one you made "seems hard to believe that a little increase of 50Mhz has caused me such a prob?" Seems hard to believe that a little increase of 50mhz would make any noticeable performance gain. So I wouldn't worry about it too much.

A fair point Comzee, however i dont intend to leave it at 3.27 my goal is for 3.63 :) which i think wud b a fairly impressive overclock :)

Anyway think u and Evilonigiri are correct in thinking its my mem, i've upped it another notch to 2.085 i believe it was, lol did it last nite and already forgot :) and seems stable so far :) gonna run a blend test as you suggested Evil i'll b using Orthos Blend @ Priority 9 (What the diff in those r i dont know)

If it comes back all stable think i'll start 2 lower the Vcore, dont like going over 1.4v especailly with stock cooler lol

thanks for the responses, i'll post how i get on.

Ok ran Orthos for 5 & half hours, no failures, no crashes etc :) so think now i'll lower the NB Vol as i upped it to try and solve the prob.

will prob lower the vcore to 1.4v aswell, dont think i need to b over 1.4v at the mo
