Hi,

System originally had Windows 98 SE, ran well for a couple years, in the last year it would hang on startup 5/6 times; I formatted and installed Windows XP Pro thinking there must be some corrupt system files; WinXP Pro worked perfectly for 3 days until I copied some large data files which 3/4 filled up the 20 GB harddrive, now the same symptom of needing 5-10 restarts to succesfully load windows is back.

What is the problem here?

(Faulty harddrive? Incorrect CMOS settings? Bad BIOS battery?)

SPECS: Sager laptop, 700 MHz Pentium III, 128 MB ram, 20 GB harddrive, 3 1/2 years old

It definatly sounds like some piece of hardware is failing on you. If the hd is making any kind of odd noises such as clicking or excessive grinding that is probably it.
128MB of ram is a little on the low side for XP and it might not be liking that. I'd blame the hd before the ram but it is always a possibility.
