Hi guys,

So here we go. I want to protect my data if my HDD failed or Windows 7 became unbootable. I have 600gb partition which i want to backup on 700gb external HDD. I want to able to restore my all data, apps, movies etc just exactly as they were from a clean Windows installation from disc menu in DOS or smth else :), not from Windows. Should I do Windows System Image or Windows Backup.

ps: In the past one time after I made a Backup on external HDD I wasnt able to restore it emmediately on original HDD, I had only Restore from System Image option in the menu which I have mentioned before then you install Windows.

Thanks for your help guys!

You want a system image. A windows backup would potentially save any files you want to keep and it would be placed on top of a new Windows installation if your old one was to irrecoverably fail. Since you want to keep your programs and system state data, I definitely recommend a system image.
