ok so i get these system interrupt issues that take sometimes 15 or sometimes 25% of my CPU on startup. the only way to get rid of this is by restarting the computer. I did a analyses on the CPU and got this.

it seems like when i open up Ataport.sys then the Root Ntoskrnl.exe is what is giving me the high CPU usage but when i open Ntoskrnl.exe Ataport.sys comes up again and the numbers are high on that too. and honestly i can't find anything to fix this. people said it's drivers issue or one said it was his head set and one said his extra graphics card. i have all my drivers downloaded for my motherboard and all my driver on my GTX 570 is up to date and i got 1 headphone with a mic that is hooked up to the back of the motherboard headphone/mic jacks. if someone can help me to find the cause of this problem it will be much appreciated.

Press control Alt and the Delete key on your keyboard all at the same time.
This will bring you to a main option of windows.

Click on task manager.
A window will open, now look, select the processes tab in the window that opens if it is not already selected.
You will see a list of processes.

Find the process labeled Ataport, sys. checking its usage of the Cpu for the process.
If of a high cpu usage.
Simply left click hi light the process in the window and click the End process Tab option.

Once you have verified that the Ataport.sys option is the cause of the High cpu usage.
You should scan your system with an Antivirus program, and a malware program in case the file in question has a virus, More than likely the case because of a rouge software install via the internet.

Is this an AMD system? I've found the latest AMD SATA Controller driver uses too much CPU time. Using Latency Monitor, it was generating tons of interrupts. I changed the driver to the Standard AHCI SATA Controller and the issue was gone.

Not sure if this pertains to you.

it's a intel system. and i'm using asrock z68 fatality professional gen 3 motherboard.

And Saun o i wish it was that easy. the only thing in the process is System interrupts that's sometimes 15or 25% and when i restart my computer it plays with .4-1.5%

i did some research about Ataport.sys and this is what i got. "In addition to the SCSI Port Driver and the Storport Driver, Windows Vista and later versions of the Windows operating system provide the ATA port driver (Ataport.sys), a storage port driver that is especially suitable for use with IDE controllers."

my Hard drive is not a IDE it's a sata 3.0 so i don't understand this error.

So i went in my device manager and under IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers there is "Intel R series/C200 series Cipset family 4 port serial Ata storage controller- 1C00" and also "Intel R series/C200 series Cipset family 2 port serial Ata storage controller - 1C08.

i went on the properties of the 1C00 and went to Driver details and it is in Windows/System32/Drivers/Ataport.sys and some other ones. I am thinking of disabling this. The 1C08 i cannot disable. but i am really thinking what will happen if i Disable the 1C00 or would it solve the problem.

Do you have AHCI enabled on your SATA ports? The driver is weird, it should be iaStorA.sys, that seems like you have IDE enabled in the BIOS.

What OS are you using? I know in Windows 7 (and before), there is a registry entry that has to be changed prior to changing the SATA port from IDE to AHCI, but I think Windows 8 and above will detect the change on boot and switch drivers automagically. Don't quote me on that though. I've changed it after the fact on Windows 7 though and it's relatively simple. Google it and you'll find it. If you have trouble finding it, let me know and I'll find it.

i'm running windows 8.1 and i actually got it fixed. i wanted to see if it was a drivers issue so i wanted to disable my IDE control in Device manager. and i used the program "Driver toolKit" and it said you need to update your IDE ATA control drivers. SO i went into Device manager and i clicked up Update driver in the properties and it said everything was up to date. So i manually searched online and found the driver and download it and it went away. now i get 0% system interrupts.
