Question System keeps booting from old HDD

Hey all, first time posting on this forum.

So this morning I hooked up my old laptop hard drive to my PC to try to retrieve the files off of it. However when I tried to start up my PC it was taking forever to boot which I suspected was because it was trying to boot from the old HDD. I tried changing the boot priority and even boot override but nothing seems to work. I finally disconnected the hard drive and now everything is back to normal but I still wanna try and get my files off the old hard drive. Can anyone help me with this?

You might want to source an adapter that allows you to connect the HDD to an available USB port on your system, preferably an HDD dock.
