Good Morning!

So for the last week i have been chasing my tail with this fault on my PC whereby the PC just randomly freezes, the screen stays on and everything still looks to be there however when i go to use the mouse or keyboard i cannot do anything and have to hard reset to fix the problem.
I have read lots of threads about this issue and have tried just about everything from these threads and i havent managed to solve the problem yet. Would be grateful if anyone has any insight into this issue.

The freezing happens at random times, sometimes my PC will stay on for hours, and othertimes it will be seconds... it usually only happens though when there isnt alot going on, when ive been playing a game it seems to be more stable than when im just leaving the PC at idle not doing anything or doing minimal tasks.

My Rig;

MB : Gigabyte GA-970A-DS3P

CPU : AMD FX-9590

GPU : Nvidia GTX 660

Ram : 16GB G.Skill Ripjaws 2x8GB

SSD : Samsung 850 evo 120gb

HDD : 1TB Toshiba (unsure of make and model number)

OS : Windows 7 Professional 64bit

What i have tried so far;

Originally i ran "sfc /scannow" in command prompt and it came back with faults so i decided to do a fresh install on windows as i was lead to belive that i had corrupt OS. After reinstalling windows i ran the same test and it came back with no faults (Happy Days) But the problem still persisted.

I have ran Memtest86 and all came back good

Originally i had only the 1TB HDD when this problem started and i wanted a new SSD anyway so i went out to buy one, when i installed the new SSD i put the fresh install on windows onto here and deleted and formatted the old 1TB one. I ran the system with only the SSD in and i still had the freezing issue. So that rules out HDD issues. (or atleast it does to the best of my knowledge)

All Drivers appear to be upto date, I have ran the windows update tool and there is nothing else to update. Likewise for my GFX Card drivers.

I have checked the timings and settings of my Memory and all are standard.

I have checked all voltages and they are all good.

Temperatures are ok. I checked my CPU Temp straight after the crash and it was only 33c so can rule out overheating.

I am by no means a computer whizz and everything i have tried has been from friends advice and the internets advice but i really am at a loose end now and dont know what to do. I dont have a readily availible box of spares to start swapping equiptment around although im starting to think that its maybee going to be helpful!

Thanks in advance.
Scott.

Have been using the system for about 3 years on and off, I work away so it dosent get used daily and sometimes goes weeks without use, this issue has been going on for about the last year but as I've been working away a lot I haven't had time to properly look into it.

PSU is mounted at the bottom of my PC and is a "650w xfx 80+ bronze certified semi modular PSU"

hmm, not your PSU then, that PSU is sufficient for your build. I'm thinking this could be a GPU issue. have you tried taking the GPU out and blowing on it and putting it back in (firmly). also reinstall the GPU drivers, even if they are up to date. let us know if this helps.
