system not detecting all of the ram

Hi Guys, I had a laptop with a single 4gb stick of ram and i had a 2gb stick so i added it but the system doesnt detect it. I opened dxdiag and resource monitor and it shows i got only 4096mb of ram while i used speccy and it shows them as 6gb so what should i do to make the system detect the 6gb?

32 bit or 64 bit OS? Older 32 bit OS can only use 4 GB RAM.

Also, are you using integrated graphics? What is your frame buffer size? If you have 2 GB frame buffer, that could be why you only 4 GB as usable.

and yes i have intel hd 5500 i give it 512mb vram but the ram isnt detected at all iam not talking about the usable ram

I was mentioning it because I seem to recall that the resource monitor in Windows 7 only showed usable RAM ... maybe not, it's been a while.

The other possibility is that your 2GB stick has different timings or voltages and therefore BIOS will not allow it to be used. I don't recall if speccy shows SPD information. Does your BIOS allow you to manually set memory timings and or voltages?

yea maybe it has different timing or voltage because it was from my other laptop so how do i know if i can set it manually or no?

You will have to access the BIOS. Shutdown the laptop and then hit F2 right after powering up. Unfortunately laptops tend to have limited options in BIOS. Depends on the laptop you have.

so to add a stick another stick of ram i need to get one with the same voltage and timings?

It depends on your laptop. Some want matching memory sticks and some are less picky. If you have a model number I will see what I can find out.

yea it's hp-be003TU but with the 500gb version not 1tb

It seems DDR3 1600 and DDR3 1833 are supported. It does not seem that the 2 sticks have to match, but the one you currently have is DDR3 1600 (assuming it is stock).
