I bought an i7 which fried, so I went to buy an i5 of CL to replace it. With the i7, my system would post but would give me BSODs when booting.

When I put in the i5, it will not post any more. The debug screen on the mobo shows that it is starting up though. The system worked and booted into the OS with 2 other GPUs that I tried. That led me to believe the GPU was the issue. I tried my GPU in 2 other systems, where it booted immediately. The only time I am getting this issue is with the combination of the i5 and my GPU. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

System:
Motherboard: Asus Maximus IV Extreme
CPU: i5 2500K(working) i7 2600(fried)
GPU: PNY gtx 770 2gb
Ram: G Skills Rip Jaws 2x4gb
PSU: Coolmax ZX-600
Hard Drive: Sandisk SSD Plus 250gb

I think the I5 is toast, but that the I7 is fine. Why? Because the only way you can get a BSOD is if the CPU gives it to you.

A BSOD means there is a problem, but Windows has to be at least mostly loaded and functioning in order for that to happen, which again, means the I7 CPU is probably fine.

What you need to do is find out what the BSOD is telling you, so that you can fix the problem.

What I would like you to try is to go into the BIOS and on the Save and Exit page, there should be a Restore Default Settings option. Choose that, then Save and Exit. The system will restart. Let it try to boot normally, and see what happens.

If you get to the desktop, great.

If not, reset the computer and as it starts the boot process, tap F8 quickly until you get to a Safe Mode menu. If you get to the Safe Mode menu, select Safe Mode with Networking. If this works, you will end up at the desktop, but Windows will be using its own drivers and things, so somethings might not run.

now what I need you to do is to download WhoCrashed, install and run it. Hopefully your system is setup to write out mini-dump files on a blue screen, and this will help us understand what is causing the crashes if they are there.

Let me know what happens.
