What size power supply would I need to be able to run this system (below) comfortably

System:
CPU = Intel Core i5-6500
Motherboard = Gigabyte GA-B150M-D3H
Ram = Crucial 8GB DDR4-2133 Memory
Graphics Card = EVGA GeForce GTX980 4GB Superclocked ACX 2.0
Hard Drive =500gb Seagate Barracuda

I was thinking a Corsair RM 550W? But I'm open to suggestions

Thank you all

well you could figure the max amps

chip 80w[??] say 10 amps 980 300w 25 amps [8 pin 150w 6 pin 75w slot 75w = 300 w full power draw ] rest of system 10amps so right there at everything pulling full load that's 45 amps at the 12v+

w/v[12] = amps allways figure for max full load power draw even if it just spikes to it

so with that you can do your own figuring /math as you see fit

A good quality 550 watt PSU with adequate +12 V amperage would be plenty to power a system with this video card.

550w psu should be 45 amps at the 12v+ but ??

now heres the trick in this and the card you see power consumption if ''at the wall''...

so you got to figure why the card needs a 8 pin and a 6 pin plus slot power ??? why cause they know the card its self can draw up to 300w as I showed above ??

Don't get the RM , get a RMX 550W or an EVGA G2.

Unless you are getting one hell of a sweet deal on the RM 550 then I would suggest a better unit by seasonic or EVGA (g2/b2 series).
Don't want to cheap out on a PSU and fry that $500 GPU.

Also, for that high level of build, I would advise to get a better motherboard. Buy for what features you think you will need 2-3 years from now.

I don't know how much the GTX 1070/1080's are and the 980 was just an option I knew about, I'm more focused on the cpu motherboard and ram etc, the graphics card will come later... With regards to the 1070/1080 how much are they roughly going to be and would I need more than a 550W power supply?

'' would I need more than a 550W power supply''

with just what yopu got above you see a 550w is bare min and -0- overhead you need a 600w or higher you could ''get by'' with a 550w but you may find you can over push its limit on the amps at 45a so if tyour system tried to pull over that 45a you have a issue [crash /bsod / ?? ] go with a unit that's 5/10 amps overhead 650w should have 55amps at the 12v +
