System power up first time new build gaming pc

Hi all im completing my first build gaming rig but i am unsure about connecting up the monitor.
Do i plug the monitor into the motherboard or the graphics card im installing for the first power up to install windows 7.
All help appreciated as i dont want to mess it up. Thx
