I have a new build gaming rig the specs are as follows
i914900kf
nvidia geforce rtx 4070ti
64gb ram
windows 11 home

My problem is that the system abruptly powers off and restarts when idle and only when idle. I can game for hours on end without issue, or if i leave a game open and walk away it is fine. The second i close everything it will shut off about every 2-5 min until i get the screen that says windows failed to start properly and it will stay there until i come back to it. I have tried reinstalling windows and repairing windows i have updated the bios also. nothing helps.

What else should i check?

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

i914900kf
nvidia geforce rtx 4070ti
64gb ram
windows 11 home

Please list the specs to your build like so:
CPU:
CPU cooler:
Motherboard:
Ram:
SSD/HDD:
GPU:
PSU:
Chassis:
OS:
Monitor:
BIOS version for your motherboard at this moment of time.

I have tried reinstalling windows
Did you recreate your bootable USB installer for your OS to later install the OS in offline mode?

i have updated the bios also
Did you clear the CMOS after verifying your BIOS was successfully flashed?

As above:

And I will add the suggestion to look in Reliability History/Monitor and Event Viewer.

Either one or both tools may be logging some error code, warning, or even an informational event just before or at the time of the power offs....

Reliability History/Monitor is end user friendly and the timeline format may reveal patterns.

Event Viewer requires more time and effort to navigate and understand.

"The second i close everything it will shut off about every 2-5 min until i get the screen that says windows failed to start properly and it will stay there until i come back to it."

I don't understand this sentence. The second you close everything it will shut off every 2-5 minutes? Do you mean that from the moment you close everything it will shut off about 2-5 minutes later? That would make more sense. If that's the case, there is most likely a process that tries to execute something when you are idle and makes the computer crashing. Do you have a screen saver? What idle time did you set for your monitor to go to sleep? Is Windows set to go to sleep within a few minutes of idle? Do you have Windows updates in pending? You can check in the logs as Ralston18 suggested to see if there is anything that systematically triggers it.

Yes 2-5 min after I close everything and walk away or if I'm simply browsing the web or doing anything that requires tiny amounts of CPU and memory. It will just shut off as if someone unplugged it.

My wife's computer had a similar problem because of Windows update that was failing to install and caused BSOD. What does it say when you go to the Windows update? Does it say it's up to date?
