Question System randomly spikes up cpu usage

Every now and then when doing mundane tasks the system will completely freeze sometimes so bad that audio buzzes, if im able to open task manager it shows cpu usage at 100 percent and will either show system using like 50 percent or everything will look normal and barely add up to like 5 percent total while it still says the total is 100, usually it gets so bad my pc is unusable for a few minutes.

I'm running at

i7 920
Asus P6t motherboard
12 gigs (6x2gig) of mixed 1066 memory modules
Gtx 660
Windows 10

Look for background tasks, possibly malware.

I'm having the same issue with my laptop ever since my frayed power cord sparked. Interested to hear if you find a solution!

I did get a Nvlddkm.sys blue screen which is Nvidia related, and what fixed it for me (at this moment) is doing a system restore from before an nvidia driver update
