System recovery with backup image will not work

Win 8 and Win 8.1 will not work to restore a system image. The program says it needs a Win 7 image. I did upgrade from win 7 64 bit through Win 8 to Win 8.1. Any views welcome

Are you restoring the image that was from that machine originally?
