System requirement for 1tb hard disk

I have 1 TB external hardisk of seagate.My desktop is unable to read it. My syatem confg. is Xp sp2(2002) Dual core E5500@2.80GHz 2.81GHz,.99GB Ram,Zotac Mother Board.kindly tell me is there any compatibility problem with hard disk and system?
