On Window 98, how do you increase system resources free to 90%? (I tried doing CTRL+ALT+DEL but it was not enough.)

That's the beauty of Windows. You have no real control over it, and you will never (legally) be able to see what it's actually doing.
Aside from that, you can run a number of programs to 'flush' things out to the page file. Turbomem (Memturbo?), Tweakall, APK are just a few that will do that for you. There's a way to do it manually, by making a .vbs file with a single command, but I forget how.

In your startup, make a few things load as possible.

Windows is a big memory eater; it'll take it away from you if you don't put it to use yourself

Run msconfig and look at all the programs listed under the startup tab.

You can uncheck anything you don't need, if it causes a problem you can always 'recheck' it.

If you run msconfig, don't forget to put a dot next to selective startup under the general tab. Then remove your startup programs. systemtray and scanregistry must remain checked

Windows uses a large amount of system resources for itself so it is hard to say if you will ever get it to 90% free. i run with 256Mg of ram on ME and i rarely see more that 75% free

The system resources in the windows family is such thing in which it is like RAM, software takes it, and some never returns it(unless u reboot), when it runs low, your com locks up. This has been a "bug" of the windows 9x family, no improvement is made even in ME, but i think NT/2K is using a diff method, and therefore, MORE STABLE.

oh yeah the memory managers in win nt and 2000 are streaks ahead of the 95/98/me ones. they have to be to give better stability. although i have to admit windows me is running pertty well. i sometimes have up times of 4 or 5 days. nothing like my months in linux but still impressive for windows.

You can get 4 days uptime with winme? Is the computer just sitting there, or are you actually using it?
