System service exception

I received the warning system service exception problem for the first time today, I've done a virus check and that's not found anything, and I checked in my settings and the computer has not flagged anything up as needing changing, however I did recently have a virus scare, that I assumed had been removed because it was not detected by my anti virus, and I hadn't been getting the virus' effect (It was one that meant when you used the internet a warning would come up with a premium line phone number you were supposed to call) Can I just ignore it as a one off or do I need to act now? Also I know very little about computers so please explain as if I was 5,

Okay just to demonstrate how little I know, I just realised I'm on windows 8 not 7, I don't know if that will make a difference

Need more details, what is the exact error and when did it come up? Only once or all the time? Does it happen at random or in a specific program or when doing a certain thing (like every time you play a movie or print or play a game)?
