system showing 8gb ram, but there is just one 4gb ram module.

Hi, maybe stupid question for you but I am little bit confused now. I have this laptop Samsung NP700Z5C-S03CA and system showing 8gb ram memory, I was okay with this capacity until now when I started edit large photos in photoshop and lightroom. So I wanted buy another memory and get 16Gb. I opened the memory slot and surprise, there is just one slot with 4Gb ram. my question is, how is this possible from 4Gb get 8Gb and what are my options for uprading the ram capacity. (i was chatting with samsung live support, they didn't know answer to my questions but they said that is not possible get more then 8gb ram or what)

Hi, as far as I know, that model of Samsung laptop comes with 4GB soldered down into the motherboard. I have a 5 Series ultrabook, and it has also 4GB soldered and I added a 8GB totalling 12GB.

oh I see, so when I will exchange my 4GB module to 8Gb (I have just one slot), I will have 12GB too. Is not possible buy 16gb module, right ? So what kind of 8GB should I buy, it doesn't matter or same spec as my 4GB module ? thanks for reply

There are some 16GB but I don't think that they are compatible with 3gen Core ix. The best and compatible option to get is a 8GB DDR3 1600MHz, standard latency (those that aren't the gaming versions, without heatsink ) . Avoid those DDR3L modules, as you are running standard 1.5V .
I bought a 8GB DDR3 (non L) 1600MHz from Kingston, the Kingston value ram series, and I'm running without any trouble.
