Howdy people, a rookie here in need of some assistance , a few moments ago my computer suddently stopped detecting my GPU while i was playing SMITE (game suddently drops fps + freezing and usually gives a BSOD if i don't alt tab before freezing). I don't think the game is at fault here, since this issue occurs like once a month at best and i usually play SMITE everyday, which is kinda weird as to why this problem even occurs to begin with.
I don't think this is a PSU/cable problem since the gpu is being powered properly, there are 2 green lights on top of the Power cords connected to the GPU, which i assume it's being properly powered. There would probably be no green lights if the cable/slot was faulty right? Plus the PSU seems to be more than enough to power the system.
I've had this issue a couple of times in the past, but every time i had the issue i would unplug everything on the outside and take off most of the dust the computer had on the inside, plug everything back in and boot the pc and it would work again. This time around i tried the same stuff aswell as moving the PCI-E slot in the PSU, there are 2 slots, only one is being used to power the GPU, i thought it could have been a PSU problem but doesn't seem like it.
Prior to these issues occuring i had issues with BSOD occuring while gaming in certain games while some other games would simply freeze my pc or crash the gpu (leading to detection problems on restart), i figured out what was the problem back then (faulty drivers installed by geforce experience), since then the only game that has been causing problems once in a while is SMITE, i made fresh installs on the game aswell but this problem still occurs rarelly. It has been over 6 months since i fixed the BSOD from faulty drivers, but this detection problem still occurs and may cause more BSOD if i don't alt tab as soon as i notice SMITE running low on fps.
I should mention that geforce experience also doesn't detect the gpu when i try to install it. Asus gpu tweak each time when i launch says "failed to load dlls. Please install VGA driver"
Here's some specs on my system:
-16gb ram
-asus gtx 670
-strike x 800W PSU
-i7-3770k CPU @ 3.50GHz
-windows 7 ultimate 64b
-asrock z77 extreme 6
Also i made no significant hardware changes since i built the pc (i did notice that sometimes if i unplug an xbox one controller while a game is running, it may cause a BSOD, or if i unplug right after closing a game, it's not 100% guaranteed to get a BSOD but it does occur once in a while). Well i didn't really build it, i just picked the components i wanted from one store, then i asked the people at the store if the built was efficient with those components, they gave me the greenlight and they built it for me. I've had this pc for little over 3 years now, spent about year and half using it with little to no issues.
Anyone got any tips/guides that could help? I've been digging through the internet but the only things i probably haven't done so far is check the BIOS, update the system or remove the gpu (i'm afraid i'll end up breaking something if i do that). The first two i have no clue what to do, removing the gpu is mostly just figuring out what goes where, without breaking things, which i'm very good at.
Sorry for the wall of text post, but i think it's always best to post self experience on the case, so people have more information to help them narrow down the problem here!
EDIT:
Decided to make another fresh install on the drivers but there are no drivers to be found on the control panel.... i don't know what is going on. Going to follow a guide to properly delete drivers and then see how things go from there.
EDIT2:
Deleted everything nvidia related using a guide i found here, rebooted and used DDU in safe mode just to make sure everything was fine, it all went smooth. The moment i try to install the drivers, it still doesn't detect the GPU, i've been trying many things in these last 4-5 hours... This is getting depressing. Don't think the GPU fried either, only played for like 20 minutes before the issues started occuring.
EDIT3: Removed GPU from motherboard and tried using another slot, the problem persists... And i did end up breaking a small piece from the other slot when removing... i had no clue there was a small piece of plastic underneath the GPU which slides a little to the side. -_-' Also i noticed the fans are spinning like as if the GPU was working normally but still no display.
